Another bin for your ears, featuring releases from January (and some that slipped through the cracks). Wide range of stuff in there this month, Breaks from Bakläxa, Holy Similaun’s noise filled world, medieval drones on Stay Awake, beautiful ambient stuff on Lust Pattern and much more, get listening!

Soukah — Illusionist EP

Resident: eatmybeat
Label: eatmybeat

Eatmybeat back at it again with a three track plus two remix EP bad boy. Familiar grime soundstyles squashed through a heavy 140 tunnel with sprinklings of dare I say it, techno?

Nice intersections on this one. Spaced out melody with persistent low end, couple of wonderful remixes sprinkled on top too.

HOLY SIMILAUN — Negative Space

Resident: OOH-Sounds
Label: OOH-Sounds

The ever prolific OOH Sounds back again with another treat, this time with a full length from Holy Similaun.

Spanning glassy ambience, deep drones and devastating percussion all within a beautiful crafted world, this one is keeping my interest the whole way through.

A beautifully defined world created by Holy Similaun, one to watch out for.

Truncate / Henning Baer — HFRMX014

Resident: TML
Label: Hotflush Recordings

Two delightful chuggers here out on the TML label. Side A a deep meditative take on Scuba x Felsen’s ‘Speed This MF Up’ from Truncate, reminiscent of a party’s early morning soundtrack.

Side A takes a more EBM type electro route with Henning Baer’s remix of TML’s track ‘Und0’. One for fans of Pinkman etcetera etcetera.

Go get it.

Bretwalda — Barrowlands

Resident: Stay Awake!
Label: Stay Awake!

London based Stay Awake! releasing medieval laden organic driven drone type experimentalism.

Where to start with this one? I mean if you’re a fan of any of the following it’s probably for you, La Monte Young, Gavin Bryars, Mark Korven, Gyorgi Ligeti, Biosphere, Kali Malone.

The textures are crisp and warm while the music is poised between longing and contentment. I cant get enough of it.

V/A — Serotonin

Resident: Edited Arts
Label: Edited Arts

Edited arts back with a big V/A for your listening pleasure. So much to delve in here, each track with its own unique flavour of lush ambience, cut up vocals, cascading reverberations and sounds both organic and synthetic.

Something to drift away to, something to miss your friends to, something to get all reflective to. Highly recommend listening start to finish.

KENGARAL ELETROHITS VOL. II — MAMBA rec

Resident: Basic Needs w/ Valesuchi
Label: Mamba rec

A contribution to a Mamba Rec compilation from Valesuchi here in the form of a persistent and squashed rhythm smothering some soft wistful pads.

This is what I wish all that ‘lofi’ house stuff had turned out like. It’s really great. Oh and the rest of the comp is really good too spanning weirdo experimental stuff to acid to nostalgic synth wave.

LUVIN U (Color Plus) — Bakläxa

Resident: Feels w/ Bakläxa
Label: Self-Released

Long time friend of the station Bakläxa with a track entitled ‘LUVIN U’. A very funky number ridden with breaks, flangers, thudding bass and vocal cuts.

An expert blend between reflective and uplifting this is one to pick you up after the January blues (if you’re not over them already).

Metal — Point Vacancies

Resident: Syrens w/ Jamie Paton
Label: Metal

Born out of jam sessions and a shared love for modular (two of my favourite things), Jamie Paton and Mike Bourne birthed this sterling LP comprised of three long-ish tracks.

Each go through downtempo metallics, dissonant synth parts, ambient musings all within a highly considered industrial sound world. Highly recommend.

V/A — Curl Compilation 2

Resident: Relations
Label: CURL

Wacked out delayed-to-no-end rhythmic bit here from Daisy Moon for the newest Curl compilation. Laced with some gentle bass and granular type formant sounding leads. A very nice treat indeed.

Rest of the comp is made up of past performers and friends of the London based Curl collective and is also of a very high caliber.

dj_2button / Elephant Jams — Weirdos Inc 001

Resident: Shows here & there
Label: Weirdos Inc

Long time friend of the station dj_2button here with the first bit on his own imprint Weirdos Inc.

Five tracks recorded between 2016 and 2020 with a heavy focus on rhythm, jams and soft synth noodlings. Its really nice to hear someones taste change over the years, very interesting listen give it a go!

Pellere — Great Commercial Circuits

Resident: Lust Pattern
Label: Lust Pattern

I probably say this every time but Lust Pattern back with another amazing release. Seriously if you haven’t checked out the back catalog go do it now.

This one from Pellere marrying drawn out glassiness with a nice amount of chaos (noise) in the most pleasing way. One for fans of Tim Hecker I’d say.
