Time for another dive into the bin — this month leaning towards the ambient side with bits from Hidden Construct, øjeRum & XVARR. Also as always, some weirdo avant-nonsense in the form of a GEORGIA LP on OOH-Sounds and a 8 minute piece from Cagey Oil Driller, sound design galore. Route around and see what you find, it’s all gold.

Hidden Construct — Hidden Construct II

Resident: Muzak Concrète
Label: Muzak Concrète

Muzak Concrète back with an 8 track from Hidden Construct— droney, avant-garde, ambient, field recording laced business straight from the man himself.

Undulating, pulsating sweeps of blissed out ambience ridden with soft synth tappings fit to relax you into the sun (now it’s finally here). Go get the digi—this guy deserves it.

XVARR — Posism

Resident: Twin Womb
Label: XVARR

Another ambient bit here for you courtesy of XVARR. 20 minutes each side of the cassette. First side with drifting waves of soft chords topped with a nice amount of noise — the second taking you down a bit more of a rhythmic route however still in a honoured ambient format.

Ever evolving, crisp yet gentle, the textures on these are so nice. Cassettes are all gone (of course) however there is always the digi…

FYI Chris — Earth Scum

Resident: The Rye Wax Show
Label: S/R

Lovely double vinyl here from FYI Chris exploring the further regions of hip hop, dancefloor cuts, soul, house music, electro, and even at times reminiscent of EBM— this one has it all, seriously.

Very nice flavours all across this thing, highly recommend for well, pretty much any time of day. You wont be disappointed.

øjeRum — Spor Af Intet

Resident: Vacast
Label: VAAGNER

More ambient stuff? Can’t complain because øjeRum has done it again, fourth installment for VAAGNER and it’s just as great as the rest.

Two 30 minute pieces to plunge you into a deep calm. Tender, wistful chords coming round in breaths, these are both really addictive. Reminiscent of Gavin Bryars’ ‘Sinking Of The Titanic’ or something — right up my alley, probably will be yours too.

Planetary Secrets —Guatemala Dreams

Resident: Loose Fit
Label: Loose Fit

Planetary Secrets here with a little digi album out with long term residents Loose Fit.

Two breaksy numbers complemented with remixes from Pépe Fruit Of The Loon & Breaka. Glossy pan flute-esque synths, persistent breaks great production all round.

Goes well with: Friday afternoons, a light pasta dish, sunset drives.

BunZer0, 11th Hour — Play Dem Tune EP

Resident: eatmybeat
Label: eatmybeat

Eatmybeat back again with three tracks from BunZero plus two remixes.

Heavy bass driven tracks ridden with dub sirens, delay, crunchy drums and all else you’d expect from a release such as this.

Big summer party vibes this one. Go show your support.

Cagey Oil Driller — Lungs

Resident: The People’s Avant-Garde
Label: New Work City Records

Good grief this one is mental. Huge sound design driven rhythms, squelches, breaks, noise, vocals spread across an eight minute tour-de-force for the debut from Cagey Oil Driller.

One for the production nerds, or anyone who likes mental stuff. Really impressive all round this one.

GEORGIA — State Effect (Accel)

Resident: OOH-Sounds
Label: OOH-Sounds

Yet another OOH-Sounds treat, release schedule from these guys is out of this world — continually amazing stuff. This time in the form of an LP from GEORGIA, Justin Tripp and Brian Close’s project out of New York.

Such a varied bit of kit this one, really interesting sounds all over it — poised between noise, rhythm and bliss. I really cant get enough of the sound design in this.

Yao Bobby & Simon Grab — Black Revolution

Resident: Ossia
Label: LAVALAVA

LAVALAVA back with a faithful 7" consisting of two killer tracks (plus instrumentals) doused in punishing kick drums, bass and the amazing politically charged lyrics and performance of Yao Bobby.

Rhythms and textures in this are super infectious, think this will be very punishing on the dancefloor — or in the front room for that matter actually.

SOMA SOMA— Saudade

Resident: Ngolo Ngolo
Label: SOMA SOMA

Refreshing numbers here courtesy of SOMA SOMA. A beautiful fusion of Bossa, Hi-Life, Samba and Afrobeat ready for the summer heat.

Hard to resist this picking up your mood — something like drinking a spritz after a long day at the beach.

Be rude not to get this one ready for your summer BBQ…

TML — VOIP 03

Resident: TML
Label: TML

Another killer bit from TML here, word on the street is he’s putting one of these out every month so get your wallets ready.

This one taking the form of incandescent breaks smothered in noise and unforgiving kick drums. Hard bit of kit not for the faint of heart, but definitely something to get you moving.

Keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for the subsequent bunch of releases.
