We are thrilled to share some results of the clinical study we conducted with Groupe SOS Santé, comparing the efficacy of our contactless vital sign scanner to traditional vital sign devices. This study represents a significant step forward in time savings for caregivers. More “care”, less “cure”, and enhanced patient care.

Study Overview

The research took place within the cardiology and pulmonology departments at Hospital Hotel Dieu in Le Creusot, France. A team of nurses took full vital signs from patients prior to their consultation: heart rate, temperature, SpO2, respiratory rate, and blood pressure (not yet enabled on our device for this study). Nurses first performed initial assessments using traditional devices, i.e. pulse-oximeters, blood pressure cuffs and thermometers. Then they used the fully contactless Norbert device to take the same vitals, and compare speed and accuracy of the two methods. This study encompassed a diverse cohort of 150 patients across various age groups and genders.

The results

The study found that the Norbert device was at least four times faster than traditional devices. On average, the Norbert device recorded all measurements within 33 seconds, with over 25% of all measurements completed in less than 20 seconds. Note that we did not consider the time required for documenting vital signs in patient records or the sanitization of the legacy contact devices, which adds even more friction in the traditional processes.

If you compare these numbers with industry standards — 6 minutes and 30 seconds to scan full vitals on average — the efficiency of the Norbert device is even more impressive:

Norbert is 90% faster than traditional devices.

The impact

The utilization of the Norbert device offers a real possibility to alleviate the strain on overburdened caregivers. With its user-friendly interface, this device can be operated not only by trained professionals but also by non-medical personnel. By capturing all vital signs simultaneously and automatically updating patient records, the Norbert device addresses the staffing shortage issue faced by healthcare providers while simultaneously enhancing the comfort and experience of every patient.

In a clinic or department that sees 100 patients per day, the Norbert device will save an astounding 10 hours of labor time per day. This monumental reduction in time spent on routine vitals checks means that staff can now reallocate their valuable hours toward more direct patient care, keeping up with their already heavy patient load or even accommodating more patients.
