Amazing Spiderman 2…the Spinoff That Flew Away

Amazing Spiderman 2 was in no way a great movie. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of spiderman. But the one thing that could’ve really saved the franchise was a potential spinoff.

No — I’m not talking about Sinister Six or Venom. I’m speaking towards the airplane scene you saw during the battle sequence between Spiderman and Electro. Remember? That random moment where Electro fries the grid making it so an airplane has trouble navigating and nearly hits another airplane? It could go down as the most random scene in cinema history that no one saw or remembers. I need an explanation for that…it’s too bizarre not to mention. Here’s a youtube clip of the scene for reference (apologies in advance, the clip is in Russian — most likely due to the secret partnership between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin).

So what did the airplane have anything to do with Spiderman? To show how many lives Spiderman saved? Was the captain supposed to ad lib a line from way up in the skies thanking Spiderman? I caught up with Director Marc Webb to get these important questions answered.

Cody: Hello Marc, thanks for joining us today.

Marc: My pleasure. Thanks for having me.

C: Let’s get down to business…what’s with the airplane scene in Amazing Spiderman 2?

M: *Sigh* I guess if I have to share this info with someone…it might as well be the great people at the Norden Post. Well, originally I had a few spinoffs planned in hopes that Sony would green light a third Amazing Spiderman. I threw in a few easter eggs here and there — with signs of what was to come.

C: Right, I remember those. The vultures wings, doc oct’s tentacles, etc.

M: Yes yes. But you see, the biggest one of all was the airplane.

C: Okay. So did the airplane have some sort of mythical power?

M: No…it…would’ve just been an airplane.

C: Okay! I see what you’re getting at — the captain would’ve developed or had some sort of super power, right?

M: Um, no…he was just a pretty good pilot.

C: Alright this about wraps up the interview. Thanks for chatting, Mr. Webb.

M: Please, it was my pleasure.

Okay…I didn’t actually interview Director Marc Webb. I imagine that’s exactly what he would say though. Perhaps we’ll never get an answer. I hope we do — because this is not something worthy of being one of the worlds great mysteries.
