Brief history of the network
The network for sustainable education under nvl was formally established in 2015 with the following members in the period 2015–2017:
Milestones
2006 :: NVL and VOFO collaborate to put on “Civic formation sustains” series of seminars every year combining local examples — the start of example pedagogy.
Mid-way ESD conference in Odense where lots of recommendations came out calling to action and to cross-sector and cross-Nordic.
2010 :: VOFO got the task from the Nordic Council of Ministers via NVL to answer: “what is on offer for adult learners on ESD?” Ellen compiled the responses from formal, non-formal, all kinds of learning settings, in the big review “Kunnskap for Bærekraftig utvikling”.
The report concluded:

2 * link it to practice, and
3 * make it cross-sectorial to
4 * reach adults in their everyday lives and work.
2011 :: Then came the next step out of a cafe dialogue at at seminar in October 2011 and the task to choose 1–3 good ideas from the dialogue to develop further.
That is where some of the people (e.g. Ulrike, Tove) who were formative for the education came into contact out of the review and the seminar.
The idea of bringing theory and research out to the people came out of a meteorologist’s lecture in Copenhagen in 2011.
These four ideas combined to form the basis of the education, which then motivated the application for a pre-project (one year) to develop the concept for the education.
2014 :: Applied and got the funding for the pilot course, which started after 6 months’ preparation, in fall 2014.
Goal with the pilot was to have all sectors and countries represented.
2015 :: Then the NVL network on ESD was finally formally established. The project group from the education was the network. The first pilot course happened. Second course application and funding and evaluation.
2016 :: Second pilot course happened.
