Helsingfors Arbis

I got the idea for the project from my colleagues at Arbis. In Arbis we wanted to have a sustainable life and reduce unnecessary use of time and stress.

I didn’t know for sure if people were stressed and if they had problems with the use of time. I made a some questions to get the idea of the situation in Arbis. I made five question groups:

1. How are you using your time in work?

2. How do you spend your time during your free time?

3. Are you stressed at home or in work?

4. How do you feel about green areas?

5. What do you think about sustainability?

I got the answers from 19 people of 27 people, which is 70% of the permanent employees.

The answers in different groups was:

1. Too much time in work goes to data-programs which are hard to use, interruptions when trying to concentrate, communication (misunderstandings) and marketing (something you don’t know much about). Suggestions for how to improve your use of time. Make a good plan. Try to work when there are no disruptions and it is calm and quiet. Prioritize or work some day longer.

2. Too much time when you are not in work goes to sitting at your computer (doing unnecessary things), shopping and domestic work, commuting and transportation of children to there hobbies. Suggestions for how to improve your use of time. Schedule your days and make time for those things you find important.

3. Are you stressed too often, 26% said yes and 58% said no the rest didn’t answer yes or no. What makes you stressed? When you have different roles in work, you don’t have control over the situation and the deadlines. Suggestions for how to minimize stress. Stay up and make things you’re fond of, make a realistic list and timetable, stress is an individual experience you have to find out what is best for you.

4. Most of the people who works in Arbis like to be in the natur and when interviewing them they where happy when they were talking about the natur and what they did there.

5. Sustainable development social, economic and ecology, which of these would you like to develop?, 13 points for social, 10 points for economy and 8 points for ecology.

What shall we develop in the future?

In Arbis many people likes to be in the nature, that could be something to develop.

When planning the lessons you could plan the courses so that the teachers and course members could have a pause, when the sun is up, during the dark period of the year.

In the project we have included only people who are permanent employees at Arbis, so there wasn’t so much net-working. We could net-work more for example include the employees who work as part-time teachers, students or some other organisation.

As people was most interested to develop social sustainability, that could be something to develop more.

We could do something with green areas that was something people liked.
