Classifying Github org’s repos with topics

So I have just figured out this high impact & low effort action, potentially helping your engineering team to better sense-make different purposes, subject areas, affinity groups and or other qualities related to your software.

To demonstrate how org’s topics do work, lets take Microsoft’s org by example: https://github.com/microsoft

The org page lists the most used topics across the org:
azure
microsoft
python
machine-learning
typescript

So you visit the org page, then you might be one click from navigating to the topic you’re looking for and finding all corresponding repos! 😜

I also noticed you can control if this information is public or private to your org members, although I didn’t dive deeper in how exactly that works.

Here are some initial experiments with my employer’s org, where we classified 10+ repos of my tribe and 5+ repos of one of our biggest systems.
