Mexican Finance Minister Luis Videgaray Discusses Reform with Charlie Rose

In an interview with Charlie Rose, Mexican Finance Minister Luis Videgaray discussed Mexico’s economy and security issues and gave a preview of the North American Leaders’ Summit in Toluca.

“This is a time for Mexico to move ahead, and address changes that for many years were not addressed,” Videgaray said. “2013 was a remarkable year in terms of reforms that the Congress appproved, and that stems from the commitment President Peña Nieto has to changing things in a way that will improve the quality of living for Mexicans.”

“For many years, Mexico was known as a stable economy, an economy very open to trade and financial flows, but with little growth,” Videgaray continues. “The reform agenda that the President is pushing and Congress has approved is designed for that purpose: to increase growth potential, create better paying jobs. If you look at our energy reform, telecommunications reform, labor reform, financial reform. All these reforms have a common theme — increase productivity and therefore increase growth.”
