Here’s our update for summer…

As we move into what can be the sleepiest time of the year, we’re following up our recent pop up and NET Connect events and giving you a heads up about what’s coming up in autumn.

NET Connect 1 (May 2022): Knowing me, knowing you and aha moments!

We hosted our first NET Connect in May…NET Connect: Knowing me, knowing you and aha moments! These are regular short online gatherings for NET members and networks friends to meet, talk and share for mutual support and to build community. Read our event write up to learn what we got up to.

Our next NET Connect is on 14 September,16:00–17:15, online, and you can still book your place.

NET pop up: NET x Human Learning Systems (June and July 2022)

We hosted a series of events all about Human Learning Systems in June and July 2022. Our overall aim was to cultivate collective bravery in the social change sector in the north east and show working in a different way is possible. The NET x HLS three part event series introduced Human Learning Systems, gave time to listen and learn from each other and let ushave a go with the new learning cycles toolkit. We were delighted to work with NET co-founder Dr Toby Lowe and Becky Elton to plan the event series, and collaborate with others great people as speakers — Ceri Armstrong and Mark Smith — and Stephanie Cole and Robert Laycock from Yes We Can as event hosts. We’re grateful to everyone for their time and passion for this work.

NET pop up: NET x DataKind UK (July 2022)

July 2022’s North East Together pop up event was a collaboration with DataKind UK: How to use the data you have to increase your impact. DataKind UK helps social change organisations use data science. Giselle Cory, DataKind UK’s CEO, joined us to share how other organisations have used their existing resources and information to reach new insights such as who you are and aren’t reaching, where to target services, and what further information to collect from service users. We also heard about some of the tools that you can use to frame your challenges, support your team to understand and embrace new approaches, and build responsible processes.

Read our event write up to learn what we got up to.

Want to host your own pop up event?

If you’re feeling inspired by the NET x Human Learning Systems pop ups, don’t forget the NET team can collaborate with you to host your own. Talk with Robert, Marie or Stephanie if you’d like to do this.

What’s coming up in autumn

NET Connect: bringing together North East Together members and network friends to connect, grow and nurture our relationships

Leader and manager as coach

A training programme for leaders and managers to develop coaching skills using coaching models including OSCAR to drive high performance through developing accountability and responsibility in individuals and teams. The programme includes one day’s training plus membership of Leaders and managers as coaches together, this programme’s network and community of practice. Hosted by us at Yes We Can on Wednesday 19 October, 9:30–16:30.

Coaching for social change

An event hosted by us at Yes We Can with North East Coaching Collective on Wednesday 26 October, 15:30–17:30 in Newcastle. We’ll share more about the event nearer the time but the intention for the event is to

  • share stories of how coaching has helped VCSE organisations and individuals
  • launch a new coaching for social change offer for small VCSE organisations and people working independently for social change in the north east to try out coaching
  • start a conversation about how we can grow and nurture a coaching culture in the VCSE in our region

Bookings are open!

Whole network event: Collaborate for social change

Our 23rd whole network event! 30 November, 16:15–20:00, Newcastle. We’re back to our favourite topic (maybe ONE of our favourite topics)…collaboration. We’re planning to come back together at Newcastle University Business School for the first time in over two years for a mix of great speakers, action inquiry and guided networking.

We’re still gathering our thoughts and making a plan so will share these in September. We’ll definitely share the NET collaboration toolkit we’ve been working on. And we’re also thinking about how the pandemic has affected how we collaborate and what we need to do to be super collaborators in the north east.

So save the date, and if you’re super keen, you can book your place now.

That’s all for now…we’re looking forward to seeing you soon at NET Connect in September or at November’s whole network event. Have a great summer.
