Oh yeah baby, new Blade Runner. The thought comes with a visual of drool that I must keep from dripping out of the mouth in order to maintain a sense of dignity while I work at my desk.

For years and years, fervent fans of the original masterpiece based off of the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? have speculated and grasped for a possible remake or sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner.

To the point of avaricious demand, science fiction and cyber punk devotees have hoarded stock piles of Blade Runner memorabilia. Theories and loop holes have been flaunted by fans on message boards for ages, while we have sat and wondered about the fate of the anti-hero Rick Deckard played by Harrison Ford and his replicant paramour portrayed by Sean Young.

“More human than human, that’s our motto!”

Our calls have finally been answered, and this cultural zeitgeist of reawakening will not leave our beloved franchised in the dust! Set 30 years after the plot from the 1982 film, Blade Runner 2049 is going to tie up loose ends and bring Harrison Ford back as Deckard.

And who could possibly be his successor?

Ryan Gosling (left) and OG Blade Runner star Harrison Ford (right).

Ryan Gosling has epitomized the lone wolf alpha for our generation. He was the enigmatic Driver in Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 film Drive, the blood-thirsty avenger Julian in Only God Forgives, and the cop stud Sgt. Jerry Wooters in Ruben Fleischer’s 2013 film Gangster Squad.

Well all of those roles may just pale in comparison to what director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicaro, Prisoners) has in store for him now.

Blade Runner 2049 is in post-production and scheduled for release on October 6th, 2017. The plot seems a bit vague at the moment, but what we know is that Gosling plays a rookie blade runner (blade runners are cops who hunt down very naughty androids), and he’s unearthed some secrets that prompt the return of Deckard.

Watch the trailer below and try not to drool.
