Supporting Women’s Health in Guatemala
Partner: Food For The Poor
Project Region: Mixco, Guatemala
Did You Know?
In Guatemala, 3 to 5 women die each day from cervical cancer. In Mixco, a suburb of Guatemala City, families are extremely poor and many women have never even heard of this preventable disease.
Worldwide, over a billion people lack access to proper health care. Most poor families cannot afford basic medicines or transportation costs to reach the nearest hospitals and clinics — causing many preventable diseases to become life-threatening.
Non-profits around the world are working to bring essential medicines, equipment, infrastructure and supplies to those impoverished areas.
The Partner
Food For The Poor, the 4th largest international relief organization in the United States, has provided food, water, education, medicine and shelter, among other essential services, to the poor in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1982.
The Project
With the goal of improving education and access to local health programs, the Women’s Cervical Cancer Clinic will give women in the rural community access to critical medical services like Pap tests, colonoscopies, biopsies and ultrasounds.
Your donation provides essential women’s health services for the prevention of cervical cancer in Mixco, Guatemala.
