Not the Medium Blog
Keep up to date with Medium writers you love, even more lucratively
(for them)
Try Substack
That’s it.
That’s how to keep up to date with the writers you love on Medium: follow them to Substack, because Medium doesn’t love them… and doesn’t want you to love them either. And while you’re getting up to date, you can give them some money.
Disclaimer: I’m not giving them any money, because I’m still on Medium and Medium doesn’t love me either, so I don’t have any money.
The thing with Substack is, you can write what you want and if people like your writing, they will read it. Contrast with Medium, where people write what they want and if Tony likes their writing, people might see it.
Substack is a farago of writers freely practicing their art in whatever way they choose, hoping to attract like-minded readers. As you can imagine, this offends Tony. At Medium, he cuts through all that free market nonsense to bring you what he knows you truly want to read: the oddly relatable wisdom of a techbro, with his heartfelt story of what he wished he knew before he moved from San Francisco to Seattle (spoiler: it’s ‘where to buy the best coffee’).
