Why Now Might Be the Perfect Time To Try Writing With AI
Exploring the modern environment beyond the emotional knee-jerk reaction
You hate AI, don’t you?
You hate that they trained their models with an utter lack of respect for authors and copyright laws. They didn’t steal the content. Of course not. They used web crawlers and databases of pirated books. It’s a subtle difference that their lawyers will argue in courts for the next fifteen years. In the meantime, they’ll have made billions (and the lawyers, millions).
But what if you could also get a piece of the pie?
Or at least some crumbs.
Wouldn’t that be grand?
And it would come guilt-free because you would just be using AI. You wouldn’t be stealing other people’s words yourself. I think we can frame it as an inspirational kind of usage. It’s like reading stories by different writers. Their words and styles influence us. It shows in our pieces later, but that doesn’t mean we plagiarized.
Some will say it’s a view that’s too close to deadly cynical, but there’s an easy retort to that criticism: capitalism.
