#3 Stop Bannon et al: Transition Team

A quick guide on calling the Trump transition team

If you’ve already called your reps as well as Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell about Bannon’s appointment as Chief Strategist, you might call the Trump transition team. I called 8 people on this team in 10 minutes.

(See these guides for calling your reps and calling the GOP leadership.)

I tweaked the script below to include Jeff Sessions and Michael Flynn, whose appointments as Attorney General and National Security Adviser, respectively, were announced today.

Tl;dr on Bannon and Sessions

The guide to calling your reps contains an explanatory section, with links, on why Bannon is unfit for a White House appointment. Bannon has a public history of championing white nationalism, anti-Semitism, and misogyny, and ran Breitbart Media (he was the executive chairman, not the owner), a platform for the white nationalist ‘alt-right.’

Sessions was rejected for a federal judgeship by the Senate in 1986 for a series of racist remarks that he made. He’s also a climate change skeptic.

Flynn endorses blanket fear of Muslims. He’s been tied to lobbying in Turkey and was paid by a state-funded television network in Russia to speak at their gala. Former military colleagues have described him as unhinged.

NYMag ran a piece on the three appointees that contains these and other links.

Script

Hello, my name is ____, and I’m calling from [CITY] to urge ____ to speak out against the appointments of Stephen Bannon, Jeff Sessions, and Michael Flynn.

Bannon is a known champion of white nationalism. He promotes anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim ideologies and harassment of women. His appointment has sent the message to white supremacists throughout the country that their hatred and actions are justified.

Sessions and Flynn both have public histories of bigotry. This is not normal. Show America we will not allow the white nationalist movement and bigoted ideologues to have the ear of our president.

Thank you for sharing my message.

Words of encouragement

Today — Friday, November 18 — is the LAST DAY to call elected officials before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Speaking out against bigotry matters. The transition team staffers whom I reached were courteous and professional—try just one or two calls to members of this team. Make yourself heard!
