Notation plans to add approximately ten part-time partners over the course of the next year. Today we’re announcing the first three:

Jon Lax — Director of Product at FB, former Co-Founder / Partner at Teehan+Lax. We’ve been fortunate to know and work with Jon over the past several years. In short, he’s one of the best design thinkers we’ve met and his experience building products will be especially valuable to our portfolio companies.

Amanda Peyton —Founder of Compound. Fomer Product Lead at Etsy, former Co-founder / CEO at Grand St. We were fortunate to invest in Grand St. while at betaworks. Amanda brings deep product and operating experience, understanding of marketplaces, and building and growing consumer software products and startups.

Alex Chung — CEO at Giphy. Alex has built a number of companies and was on the founding team at Fridge (acq. Google). Alex is a phenomenal hacker and will be an important advisor to our portfolio companies around technology, product, and company building.

Together, Jon, Amanda, and Alex bring exceptional engineering, design, and operating experience to the Notation Capital family.

Why are we calling them part-time partners and what exactly does that mean?

We call them part-time partners because we view them as a core part of Notation. We’ve carved out meaningful economics in the fund to do so, although we don’t have the budget to pay them full-time (and they have important full-time jobs already). This has worked particularly well for YC, so we’re taking their approach as inspiration.

Our hope is that Jon, Amanda, Alex, and the other part-time partners that join Notation will be important resources for the founders in the portfolio and extensions of our firm and brand. We’re confident they’ll be good stewards in this regard. We also believe that their insight in key areas where they’ve built products and companies will help us make better investment decisions.

We’re excited to officially welcome Jon, Amanda, and Alex to the team!
