Stoked for annotations, clearly!

We heard you guys wanted some additional features.

You asked for it; you got it!

We’re excited to announce we’re rolling out annotations with Google Docs! Now, faculty using Notebowl have full Google Docs functionality — all directly integrated within our quick grader when previewing and annotating for assignment submissions. Teachers can quickly and easily edit, annotate and comment directly within the grading environment. No more unnecessary downloads and extra steps. More time for collaboration and focusing on the important stuff!

No other LMS allows editing, annotations and comments in full Google Docs functionality directly integrated into a quick grader or grading environment.

How it Works

In many platforms, students must upload and submit a file into an assignment area. Faculty need to then download the file, add commentary, grade and then re-upload the file to a grading or assignment area - several manual steps that waste time and energy.

With Notebowl’s new Google Docs functionality, students can submit a Microsoft Word document or Google Doc. If a student submits a Word document, Notebowl will automatically convert it to a Google Doc. Faculty can grade and comment directly inside of the Google Doc — no extra steps and downloads required!

See it in Action

This new Notebowl feature allows for deeper student-teacher collaboration. Rather than commenting in a separate feature area, faculty can provide feedback, edits and grades right within the document.

While Google Docs offers real-time collaboration within a single document, faculty may not always want students to see their commentary and edits in real-time. Don’t worry. We have that covered. Students won’t see your comments in real-time.

We realized you may not always want to share the first thing that comes to mind when you’re reviewing an assignment, so if you need to go back and “soften” your feedback, you’re covered. Unlike in a typical Google Doc where you can see commentary and annotations in real-time, we disabled this for that exact reason!

If you build it, they will…LOVE IT!

Many schools have been requesting this feature set over the last few years. Unfortunately, Google didn’t have an API for this. Fortunately, we have some really talented developers at Notebowl who can build it. So, we did, and we hope you love it. And if you don’t, we want to know that, too, so we can make it better!

We Want Your Ideas

We hope you’ll love the convenience and improved collaboration using Google Docs functionalities for your assignments. There are a ton of use cases for this new feature that we’re excited for you to explore.

At Notebowl, we are always working on enhancements. Feedback and insights from our students, faculty, and administrators are what motivate us to continue enhancing your experience.

Please, don’t be shy. Let us know how we can make your experience even better!
