It’s all about the students

I’ve been thinking about a platform since I was a freshman in college of the day that colleges and universities would see the need for a student-centric platform. I have advocated for change, had discussions, came up with ideas, been in hundreds or even thousands of meetings and have given speeches on it. And at last, at the WCET Annual Meeting, the revolution was showcased.

Jaime Casap, Chief Education Evangelist from Google featured our story and the reasons why we are working on notebowl. The endless desire to improve the student experience and the learning platforms that students are using on a daily basis. Today, the experience is nothing like what students are used to in the real-world. The learning platforms are clunky, out-of-date with reality, absolutely not social, and students feel completely overwhelmed and most importantly, lost.

We need to change that. And to change that, we all need to change. And that’s hard, but possible. If we really care about solving the problems or at least improving the experience, we need to look at the root of the problem, and that’s the student experience.

At the keynote, Jaime gave a passionate plea for administrators to open up their minds to what is possible when you can focus on the student. The problem of retention and students dropping out hits home with everyone, but not everyone is focusing on the right path to improve it. What Jaime mentioned was the need for a platform that is second nature to how students learn today with technology and social media. With the ability to interact, collaborate and connect with others in classrooms and outside of it. And to bridge the gap of the learning platforms today.

The student-centric revolution is here and it’s here to stay. It will redefine student learning, engagement, academic organization, and bring together your entire campus experience into one place, like it already is on-campus.

The conversation was buzzing around during the conference sessions and throughout the conference center. Administrators opening up their minds in utilizing a platform that is focused around their mission to increase retention, and provide a better experience for the students.

I can’t tell you how amazing that feeling is. To at last be able to get this movement going, to see administrators light up with possibility, to make a huge impact on our colleges, universities and most importantly, student lives.

Our entire team at notebowl cannot wait to get the word out about why it is so important to focus on the student with learning platforms. It’s going to make a huge impact and we cannot wait until the whole world see’s what this revolution is all about.
