I Went on a Religious Pilgrimage. I Shouldn’t Have.

Religion is supposed to inform your life, not the other way around.

I signed up for a pilgrimage after my friend got really excited about it.

We’ve been going to church together for almost two years and these are the highlights of my week, otherwise spent working from 9h to 23h daily.

So I woke up early on Sunday to take the bus from Brussels to Wallonia.

I was going alone but hoped to meet like-minded people at the event.

I also thought this experience would reinforce my faith.

I have rarely been more wrong in my life.

The Pilgrimage

One of the most fascinating findings in techno-social sciences is that AI can guess your politics based on your face, hinting at the correlation between physical features and personality (and their common genetic basis).

To put it simply, most of us look like who we are.

So upon arriving at the meeting point, I felt uneasy.

Men my age with boyscout faces and advanced baldness were talking about their engineering and schoolteaching jobs.
