Free Will

The idea that humans have entirely free will is called Libertarian Free Will. This idea stems from the root word liberty and it is the idea that humanity is completely free when making a choice.

However many people believe this as well as believe that every action has a cause, this is called hard determinism. Determinism states that no action is free as something must have caused this action to happen. That would eliminate the idea of free will.

Many of you are probably thinking you believe both. How can you believe to . utterly contradictory statements it’s like saying black is white and white is black.

Libertarian free will operates in that if you have more than one possible choice than a decision is free. So for instance if you wanted to draw a circle but the pencil you have only lets you draw squares then it is not your free will to draw the square.

However if you wanted to draw a square and drew a square the action was free as the intended outcome was what happened.

But which view of human willpower makes most sensse?

Are we free from deterministic tendencies or are we entirely dictated by everything that happens to and around us?
