The Destroyer Of Worlds: J. Robert Oppenheimer
I know. Most of us are waiting Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer movie. I am waiting excitedly like you too. Cillian Murphy will revive J. Robert Oppenheimer. If only Hans Zimmer was composer of movie soundtracks, i think movie will be perfect but it’s too early to comment on the movie of course. In short, we will wait 2 months more for the movie.
My purpose of write this story is to answer the question of “Who was Oppenheimer in real?” before watch the movie. When I tell you his life, i will accept the Atom Bomb as turning point. Good reading from now on :)
Before Atomic Bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer
His parents were rich, nationalist and religious Jews. When they immigrated to USA, Robert wasn’t knowing English. He learnt English and positive sciences from schools. He was liking chemistry but his environment canalized to Physics (he will interested in and use Chemistry next times). He studied education in order of in Harvard, Cambridge and Göttingen Universities. When he was 22 years old, he bringed out many articles (one of these is about quantum theory). He was giving education to students a years later in California University.
He was affected from Communism in 1930’s. He even gave his fathers legacy (300 thousand dollars) to leftist groups when his father died in 1937. He got married and he has got 2 children in 1940’s.
We Have an Atomic Bomb
There was great 2.World War in 1940’s. USA joined this War in 1942. This times, there was Manhattan Project for create and design the nuclear weapons. Oppenheimer brought to the head of Secret Weapon in Manhattan Project. When date became 1945, the year of last year of the war, they succeed. Then 2 bombs launched in Nagasaki and Hiroshima but Oppenheimer didn’t know this fact will be happen.
After Atomic Bomb
Oppenheimer took Medal of Merit from government (Harry Truman) because of his successes but he regretted for these successes. After Manhattan Project, he became as chairman of the General Advisory Committee of the Atomic Energy Commision. He was working different purposes according to Manhattan Project. He was searching and working about radioactive injuries to on people. He even which in October 1949 opposed development of the hydrogen bomb. Maybe made these work because of his own regret.
Also he was an activist. He struggle to nuclear weapons for a long time but he was exposed because of his communism sympathies. When he was canceled this event, he awarded Enrico Fermi prize in 1963 because of his activist works.
J. Robert Oppenheimer was died in 1967 because of throat cancer when he was 63 years old.
Some people think he was guilty because of as creater of bomb now but he didn’t want this events. He was regret.
There is a his famous interview. When we watch it, we can see a regret on his face and he say “Few people laughed, few people cried, most people was silent.” Then he say a expression of the Bhagadav-Gita like say to hisself “Now I become death, the destroyer of worlds".
I told his real life to you. We can wait the movie now. If i admire to this movie, also i can write an article about the movie most possibility :)
