Be Aware of What you Can’t Control
but also be aware of what you can.
If you’re like me, you try your best to make sure everything you do is as perfect as possible. You try your hardest to work out every detail in order to make your plans (and your day) as foolproof as possible. You try to make everything work out for everyone. You want everything to be perfect, even if you know in the back of your mind that it’s probably not going to end up that way.
You probably already know this, but sometimes you need a reminder. There are many things in life that are beyond your control, and I want you to know that it’s okay. Many things exist beyond your reach. They tease us beyond the line of what is within our power to control. You can’t make everyone like you. You can’t make every plan you make work out. You can’t control the universe, as much as you’d like to.
The good news is that there are plenty of things that you can control. You can control your thoughts. You can control your choices. You can’t control what life throws at you, but you can control how you react to it at all. You can’t control the fact that we’re currently living in a pandemic, but you can control how you choose to live in it.
Awareness is the key. There will always be things that you can and can’t control, but being aware of the line between the two is crucial. That line may be blurry sometimes. Over time, where the line is drawn may change as your opportunities and resources change. Being aware of what you can and can’t do at a given moment in time is a skill that will carry you far in life.
