One annual tradition that we like to do here in the United States is create a New Year’s Resolution. It’s usually one thing that we want to change about our life in the new year. Usually it has something to do with exercising more, eating healthier, saving more money, or starting something new. While these resolutions start with good intentions, many of them fade out in a few weeks or months.

It’s unreasonable for people to think that everyone will be able to keep their resolution. Life doesn’t always work in a linear fashion. Some people will start strong, others will start late. Some will gain slow progress, some will rapidly progress initially, but then plateau. Others will start, stop, and somewhere along the lines, try again. It’s life; it’s what happens.

The question that you need to ask yourself to see if your New Year’s Resolution will stick or not is “How serious am I about this?”

The more serious you are, the more likely you will be successful. The more serious you are, the more determined you will be. If you’re not serious about your goal, then you’ll spend little or no time strategizing or planning how to get it done or how to incorporate the changes into your daily lifestyle.

If you want a better life, you need to be serious about it. If not, it’s just wishful thinking.
