External vs. Internal Communication Digital Signage

One of the oldest, yet still growing domains in Digital Signage, is internal communication. Organizations of almost any size are striving in many ways to improve the internal communication, by that making sure the employees and management share the same values, that the employees are engaged and well informed on the company status, success stories and even loses and failures. Digital signage for internal communication is also serving as infotainment tool that updates the teams on personal and other relevant events in the professional and personal lives of the members (births, birthdays, prices, sport events, project days and so on).

If the Digital Signage for internal communications serves a high-tech company that is most like not viewed by the customers, as usually the nature of the work is remote. The dilemma starts when the internal communication implementation might “blend” with the digital signage system that is serving the customers and visitors as well… Like in a big hotel, or a large store.

A hotel can have few hundreds of employees and the benefits of internal communication is clear, but it can be easily exposed to the hotel visitors and customers — this might become a problem. It is one thing to present the activities planned in the lobby and the pool to the employees, but it is totally another thing to present the ongoing reminder to the dining room employees to wash their hands to the hotel visitors (It immediately makes them thing there were incidents in the past) — this is just a simple example that digital signage networks may create embarrassment if not properly focused to the right audience.

In the modern SaaS based digital signage software platforms it is very simple to create and manage logical groups and separate between them from content and ownership perspective, it highly recommended doing so, especially when external and internal communication signage networks are located in the same venue.
