Songs In My August 2014 Rotation
What I’m Doing Here
by Lake Street Dive
Rachel Price of Lake Street Dive is truly incredible. Modern music can produce some really interesting styles and sounds, but when you listen to this song, you remember the brilliance and beauty of pure vocal talent. I think it is also sometimes easy to tell who is really good by the facial expressions they make. This song is stellar.

Red Eyes
by The War on Drugs
There are a handful of bands I think I only know about because of rdio’s Heavy Rotation (and would likely not know about otherwise). The War on Drugs is probably one of those bands. I am not specifically a fan of 80's rock music, and thus do not know for sure that I’m right in saying this, but I feel like if 80's rock sounds like this, I should listen to it more. I’ve listened to the album (“Lost in the Dream”) on repeat several times this month, usually while reading or writing.

Summer In The City
by Freedom Fry
“Summer In The City” (a remix of the song) was the song attached to a really awesome video about the effects of the sun’s UV rays on skin. I searched for the song and finally found the group Freedom Fry. I’ll let their bio explain why I loved them from the get-go: “What’s in a name? Freedom Fry is the tongue-in-cheek alter ego that French songstress, Marie Seyrat, and Michigan-born musical chameleon, Bruce Driscoll, go by. The duo met and are based in Los Angeles where their desert warm, beachy, bittersweet, lo-fi/hi-fi, retro pop sound is right at home.” Love it.

High Life
by Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood
Not since “Mud On The Tires” has Brad Paisley been in his stride so well. This song is the Chick-fil-A sequel to “The Cigar Song”, and is pretty self-aware, to great effect. It made me laugh out loud (genuinely) when I first heard it. Brad’s style has always been classic country sound mixed with a very tongue-in-cheek humor with solid musicianship. “Moonshine In The Trunk” fires on all pistons. “Man I love those waffle fries.”

I Wanna Get Better
by Bleachers
It’s the guy from Fun. It’s a fun song (not a Fun. song though, don’t get confused). Good music to drive to if you’re into that sort of thing.
