Conrad

by Ben Howard

Ben Howard is back, and we should all be extremely grateful. “Every Kingdom”, his debut album, is ranked as one of my favorite albums of all time, and the prospect of a new CD in October has me positively giddy. “Conrad” is one of the pre-release singles and it meets expectations right from the start with a “Strawberry Swing” guitar tone melding with Ben’s mellow waxing perfectly. I’m already sure Fall 2014 will be dominated by Ben Howard in my heavy rotation. Also check out another excellent single, “I Forget Where We Were”.

Waiting For My Time To Come

by Colony House

It’s really hard to pick a song off of Colony House’s “When I Was Younger” because I’ve listened to the album on repeat, and the whole thing is one great musical experience. But here’s a sampling. Don’t be put off by the hipster choir in the video, this Tennessee based band is legitimate. I think they have a little bit of a Vampire Weekend sound to them, which is a good thing in this case. I also love the song “Caught Me By Surprise”.

Shweet

by Trip Lee

I’ve enjoyed listening to Trip’s new music in part because he is member and pastor at my church. But don’t misunderstand me, it’s solid stuff by it’s own merit. A nice complement to Lecrae’s new album as well.

The Valley

by The Oh Hellos

I had a chance to see these guys (all 11 of them or so?) this month at the Fillmore Silver Spring here in the DC area. They are a lot to take in. As in, there are so many of them on the stage that its hard to process what’s going on. But beards and mustaches aside, the music is joyful, bright and infectious, and I’m a fan. [The guy at 4:15 is my favorite].

Shake It Off

by Taylor Swift

I was castigated by a friend last month for not including this song on my list. I am, after all, known to be a huge fan of Taylor. So here it is. I am genuinely looking forward to what “1989" has to offer!
