📧 Email Login Is Now Available
A new authentication method has been added to Now4real
We are super excited to announce that a new login method has been released to all Now4real accounts. In addition to social login, based on Facebook, Google, Twitter, and LinkedIn, users can now sign in via email to chat on Now4real. This is an innovative passwordless email login system. An authentication code replaces the need to remember the password and, at the same time, provides strong authentication because there are no passwords to steal or guess.
These five authentication methods are available by default on all Now4real accounts (both Free and Premium). Remember you can override them with your site’s authentication and achieve SSO (single sign-on) through Custom Auth (available as an option Premium feature).
When a user clicks on “Sign in with email”, a new window is opened and they are prompted to enter their email.
Then, a 6-digit verification code is sent to that email address. The user must type it in the verification screen.
The next step is to enter a display name, that will be displayed publicly together with the chat messages. It is important to notice that the provided email address will not be disclosed.
The user is now signed in. The default avatar is randomly generated with some pixel-based art.
The user can change the display name and the avatar at any time, by clicking on the fields in the chatbox header or through the three-dot menu. A new verification code is sent to the user.
To change the avatar, the user is required to register for free to the third-party Gravatar service.
Once signed in, the user is remembered on that browser for any subsequent use of the Now4real chat. When the user signs in on a new browser or a different device, it will be enough to verify the email through a new code, while the display name and avatar will be automatically retrieved.
