This story is part of our series on AoC 2020

I’m sure many people in software engineering are familiar with Advent of Code. For those of you that aren’t, it’s a yearly competition that happens in December, with 25 open problems that need to be solved, usually with code. The problems look a lot like Project Euler, where the method used doesn’t matter, you only have to get to the correct answer.

Naturally, AoC quickly became a craze in our engineering team, especially because we “unoficially sanctioned” it as a way to feed some healthy competitiveness in the engineering team. We gave the freedom to everyone to choose what language they used, and some of us took the offer more seriously than others with some problems solved in Excel.

We’ll be writing up our solutions over the next few weeks, and you can find an up-to-date index to all the individual articles at the bottom of this page. We are not going to publish solutions to all problems; only those that we found particularly entertaining or we solved in an usual way (yes, we will talk about the solution in Excel). If you don’t see a particular problem that you’re interested, keep checking in, we might still be writing the article. Or drop us a line!

The purpose of this series is to inspire others to participate more in these fun exercises. Our engineering team had a blast with it, as we like to be challenged with hard problems. If you like what you see, we are constantly looking for great talent, please consider joining us!
