JavaScript frameworks by the numbers

Last week, Laurie Voss released The State of JavaScript Frameworks, 2017.

Part 1 is dedicated to front-end frameworks and examining their share of the registry during the period between January 2013 and 2018; Part 2 explores the React ecosystem; and Part 3 examines back-end frameworks. Collect them all!

Last weekend’s operational incident

Over the weekend, approximately 102 packages were unavailable for download on the npm Registry for as long as three hours. We’ve identified that the cause of this incident was an error in our processes for flagging and removing spam. We know you rely on us to be an invisible and reliable part of your JavaScript development infrastructure, and on Saturday we were not. We are sorry. A full post-incident report is available here.

Be the first to know about npm service status with this quick tip

We thought this tip from Tierney Cyren was pretty clever:

Tierney demonstrated how following @npmstatus on Twitter and enabling mobile notifications can give you an up-to-date status on npm services.

CSS Modules at Leeds Front End

Earlier this week, Katie Fenn had the opportunity to speak that the Leeds Front End meetup on CSS Modules. You can see Katie’s slides here or watch a similar version of the talk from Scotland CSS.

What we’re watching: Building on an unsafe foundation

Late last fall, Ashley Williams attended Rust Belt Rust 2017 in Columbus, Ohio, where she got to see this excellent talk. Now that the organizing team has posted the videos, so can you! Please enjoy “Building on an unsafe foundation” by Jason Orendorff.

Reminder: Global Diversity CFP Day is February 3rd

Speaking at events can be one of the most rewarding experiences in our industry. To learn how to submit your first CFP or offer to mentor new potential speakers around the globe, check GlobalDiversityCFPDay.com and find an event near you!

npm in the wild in Durham, North Carolina

An npm human’s baby sister is a Blue Devil who wrote to share her eagle-eyed observation of mailbox vandalism in Central Park.

Our very patient lawyer routinely saves us from ourselves, and would prefer we make it clear that we absolutely do not condone violating 18 U.S. Code § 1705. The same goes for displaying your wombat pride at the airport.

That being said: if you accidentally left your npm sticker on a mailbox, perhaps you should reach out for a replenishment, or maybe you’d like some socks as a less felonious way to display your npm love.

Also, if you haven’t already, try the plum saison at Ponysaurus. Trust us.

Get free socks! Just fix some bugs.
