Events not to miss

Engineering Manager, community organizer and educator, Amal Hussein, will be speaking at these upcoming events. Check them out and make sure to say hello!:

We’ll share more details closer to the event dates, but in the meantime, you can get more info and register via the links above! See you there!

FinJS New York

npm’s wombats had a great time at FinJS in New York earlier this week. The event featured a variety of sponsors and talks, and we got to network with many great people from the JavaScript community and thought leaders in FinTech.

Our CTO, Ahmad Nassri, spoke to the group about current software architecture patterns: “Building software is about the people who code and the relationships between them as defined through process and architecture paradigms.”

Stay tuned for the recording coming soon!

What we’re reading: Pure functions, immutability and other software superpowers

In this blog post, Simon Schwartz explains the benefits of pure functions and immutability. He argues that pure functions are the most important technique for writing software, as they help simplify code and make the effects of code much more predictable. Read more here.

Recommended projects

We’ve got a handful of awesome projects to share with you this week, courtesy of NiftyLettuce!

  • Lad: scaffolds a Koa webapp and API framework for Node.js
  • Lass: scaffolds a modern package boilerplate for Node.js
  • Cabin: a JavaScript and Node.js logging service
  • Lipo: a free image manipulation API service built on top of Sharp

Are you using npm to build something cool? Let us know and we’ll help get the word out!

Mark your calendar

Will you be at NodeDay tomorrow (10/25) in NYC? Don’t miss CTO Ahmad Nassri’s session, “Modern Patterns in Modular Software Architectures.”

Make sure to save the date for our next Open RFC meeting: Wednesday, 10/30 at 10am PT/1pm ET. A new meeting thread providing details and an initial agenda will be created here soon. Previous meeting agendas and notes can be found here.
