dependency boss talk on JavaScript Air

Yesterday npm was featured on the popular podcast JavaScript Air for Episode 36: Managing Dependencies like a boss 😎. Ben Coe ended up doing a fantastic job talking about dependency management. Check it out!

Yargs! A Node.js library for pirates plundering the web with optstrings

If you haven’t yet come across yargs in your web surfing experience, allow us to introduce you. Now in version 5.0.0 yargs now offers some cool features like recommended commands and option coercion. It’s definitely worth a look if you write command-line applications. (That said, beware! ☠️ 5.0.0 also introduces some breaking changes, so navigate with care.)

NodeTah-geth-ah Baaah-stan

Signups are still going on for the next NodeTogether event, August 24, in Boston.

NodeTogether and Node Live are trying to make the Node.js community better through more representation for the underrepresented. Get in the cah to help improve Node by sponsoring or volunteering as a mentor.

Can’t make Boston? There are more opportunities to get involved coming up. Wicked!

Greetings from the npm CLI team!

Last week the npm CLI team released several new things. First, an update to v3.10.7, the current build, as well as an update to LTS, v2.15.10.

Most importantly, as detailed on the CLI Team Process wiki, the team announced a new approach to releases. Instead of pushing weekly releases, the CLI team is moving to a monthly release cadence.

This is an experiment of sorts, so read the CLI Team Process wiki for the details, and be sure to reach out to the team with questions and feedback.

Check out this package: auto-install

We’ve noticed this package making the rounds, but it’s fairly obvious why. auto-install, created by Siddharth Kshetrapal, Zeke Sikelianos, and John-David Dalton, auto installs dependencies as you code. It’s a total game changer.

Finally a dashboard so you can see where you’re driving with webpack

For all you frontend folks working with webpack and looking for better UX tools, this plugin changes everything. webpack-dashboard gives you a more intuitive and organized view of your dev server and has rapidly become quite popular (3,000+ stars in only 2 days). Give it a spin!

Just a friendly reminder that contributing to the npm community has some creature comforts (like free clothes)

Just another periodic reminder that fixing bugs get you free wombat socks (as demonstrated above). Thanks for the great photo Anna!
