Later, ’gator! npm@5 is now `npm@latest`

npm@5 is finally here! Just yesterday, we announced that if you type `npm install npm@latest -g`, you’ll be updated to npm version 5.

Our release notes have all the details you’ll definitely want to read, but we’ll hit the highlights here: npm@5 is fast, it’s consistent, and it’s much easier to use. Check out the latest on npm@5.

New npm human: Katie Fenn!

Katie Fenn’s a software engineer helping to build the npm website. Based in Sheffield, a city in northern England, Katie loves to write talks for conferences and helps out with the Sheffield JS user group and the Scotland JS conference. A very cool fact about Katie is that she enjoys diving as a hobby. A very uncool dad-joke about this fact would involve noting how we can’t wait for her to “dive right in” to our code. Sorry.

Rebecca Turner joins popular podcast “My JS Story”

Following the latest trend of npm humans on podcasts, Rebecca Turner was recently featured on the JavaScript Jabber show My JS Story. Rebecca talks about her introduction to programming as youngster and the fortuitous internship which led her in the direction of a career as a developer. She also talks about some behind the scenes npm stuff. Be sure to listen.

Oslo! Say hallo this week at Web Rebels

npm human Raquel Vélez is in Oslo, Norway this week for Web Rebels. She’ll be giving a talk on the Beauty of Bad Code. Find her, say hi, and you might just be the lucky recipient of some cool npm stickers.

Hello, Node 8!

Yesterday also marked the release of Node.js version 8. The latest version of the world’s most popular JavaScript runtime features V8 5.8, async_hooks, the Node.js API (N-API), improved support for Promises, npm@5, and so much more. Take a look at the Node 8 announcement post.
