Key Insights
· The Goblintown team is putting together many of the elements required for successful branding and storytelling.
· Although the content is silly, the implemented strategies for brand development and social media are highly professional.

At first glance, Goblintown looks like we’ve reached peak Degen. And not in the good way. But behind all of this craziness and calculated ugliness, is their brilliant storytelling and branding?

After engaging with the brand a bit, you quickly realize that this project just hits differently. Even if you love them or hate them, they’re bringing a unique experience.

Goblintown’s Official Website

If you participated in any of the Spaces, you were in for a bizarre experience. But also, a ton of fun. The goblin hosts stay in character during the spaces. Most of it is nonsensical, but it is memorable. Audio is such a powerful element for building a connection with a character. The Goblins nail this and are developing their characters. Well, nail may be a bit too much of a compliment.

Now, I haven’t liked a website with sound since dial-up internet, but the soundtrack on their website further builds on the Goblin experience. If you want to turn it off, the playful animated icon shutting its mouth is also satisfying. Their whole website just meshes well. The text, graphics and simple animations are all very much on brand. Even the scrollable text between Garf and Urki also makes these Goblins more lifelike.

If Goblins definitely aren’t about the roadmap. What are they about exactly? Tough to tell. That’s part of the mystique. We’re not quite sure what they are, but they keep us coming back for more, even with the little things.

The photos for the team slowly add more faces, and this is getting people to speculate. Also, they have these eggs where you may want to look inside to see what there is. It also gets you wondering if we’ll get baby Goblins down the road? But then bam! They smash the egg?? Why???

This is all very silly indeed. But silly and playful, especially for NFTs, creates so much cohesion between a brand and its community. On Twitter, the Goblin script jumps out at you. Other brands are starting to use them too, and this just further builds upon brand awareness.

A quick look on OpenSea shows that approximately 13,200 ETH in volume has been traded and the floor price is at 2.7 ETH, triggering the Goblin team to post this classy pic. There are also 10,000 goblins with 1,000 of them being reserved because the team wants to. When going through the traits for the Goblins, you are immediately hit with some more of that Goblin fun and lightheartedness of the characters.

Interestingly enough, Goblintown has also implemented a free to mint strategy where users just have to pay the gas mint fees for 1 free Goblin per wallet.

Where is this project going? Who knows? But the team behind this is definitely well crafted in creating stories.
