3 nice and simple steps to unleash disruptive thinking
Disruption is about radical change. It is about thinking differently. It is about finding new solutions for existing problems and doing it in a way no one else has done before. It is about iterating and improving a product until it becomes affordable for everyone.
After Clayton Christensen coined the term āDisruptive innovationā, companies around the world started implementing it. Today, the disruption model is inherent to any business innovation strategy. But why?
Covid-19 shook everyone to its roots forcing business professionals and entrepreneurs to think of new ways to shine through todayās challenging scenario: How to create new models, solutions and products that will supply new models of demand? How to be a relevant actor in the long-term? To face this challenge, in NTT Disruption we relied on the Open Disruption Platform.
What is an Open Disruption Platform?
The Open Disruption Platform is a simple, 3-step reasoning model to kindle unconventional strategies. It aims at turning consumer trends upside down and tackling complex issues in a different way.
01. Think Big
Everything starts with ideas. Our Think Big methodology enables us to ignite disruptive ones, focused on developing new tech solutions.
We get inspired by following an open-minded and limitless approach, where ālimitsā inspire us to be creative with our new solutions. From brainstorming sessions, to freewriting, we donāt put boundaries to imagination. We always thrive to explore the unexplored. We question everything as the path towards tackling complex issues in a different way and thinking on the long-term sustainability.
We make this happen by working together in different multidisciplinary teams. We combine unique, diverse and international talent to lit unexpected solutions and ideas.
02. Start Small
Organizations need to act faster, be more agile and make decisions efficiently and bluntly. Starting Small, enables them to materialize ambitious ideas into prototypes with one objective: test, test, test. This enables organizations to iterate, learn fast from mishaps and act quickly to produce reliable outcomes. In NTT Disruption, we work on numerous Proof of Concepts with other companies of the NTT Group.
For example, NTT Disruption and everis Brazil are currently working with The Heart Institute (InCor) from the Clinical Hospitals, University of SĆ£o Paulo Medical School, one of the worldās most recognized centers of academic and clinical excellence in cardio pneumology, to test NTT Disruptionās Virtual Patient Observation (VPO), a new technological solution for Intensive Care Units.
VPO utilizes video and artificial intelligence to detect and predict a patientās predefined behaviors, movements, or actions, with alerts in real-time, providing a tool for nurses and doctors to make patient care safer and more efficient. It can be personalized based on the needs of each healthcare institution, or hospital wing differentiating between a patient sitting up, leaving the bed, or waving a hand. Real-time alerts to hospital staff are assigned based on the level of care per predefined behavior.
The results of this solutionās effectiveness will be analyzed through this project, which will lead to the development of a new solution aimed to have a high impact on patient care, safety, and efficiency, while diminishing practitioner burnout. It is our way to start small, testing in a few beds, to learn, iterate and improve, so we can then scale to produce great impact.
03. Scale Fast
Companies around the world have been put to test: how much time do businesses take to land their new ideas into profitable, measurable, and scalable solutions? Scaling Fast consists both in a strategic and networking perspective, under efficient workflows. Plus finding the right partners to extent products and solutions that will positively impact millions of people in the long term.
