Numbers @ Meet Taipei 2020 Recap
At Meet Taipei 2020, Numbers showcased its image traceability framework in the mobile app Capture.
For the past six years, Meet Taipei has been Asia’s largest startup event. Numbers was honored and excited to participate in this years event and showcase our product: Capture App. Available on both Android and iOS, Capture generates unique, traceable birth certificates that capture who, when, and where media was created and seals it on the blockchain.
When “seeing is no longer believing” what do we do?
According to a 2019 Statista study, up to 70% of people in the United Kingdom are worried about fake news. Adobe has recently published an in depth study on disinformation and its wide spread effects. It only takes five seconds to browse an image, but it takes more than five minutes to confirm its authenticity.
In the digital age we live in, images are easily obtained, tampered and proliferated via the internet. AI DeepFakes, fake news and disinformation run rampant eroding societies trust in everything.
As 2020 concludes, trust in society is at an all time low. Disinformation has handicapped many freedoms and caused deep divides. What do we do now that “seeing is no longer believing” ?
Numbers Image Traceability Framework — Regaining Trust in Digital Images
Addressing the “seeing is no longer believing” dilemma is a top motivation and priority of Numbers. We developed an image traceability framework that includes: Capture, Seal and Trace. Capture records the birth information of the media content at the point of creation and generates a certificate with unique signature. Seal uses blockchain technology to seal assets birth information and change-logs with immutable records. Trace tracks the assets content footprint at every level from creation to archive and plays an integral role in reducing the efforts required for verification.
Image Traceability Framework made easy with Capture App
Showcased at Meet Taipei 2020, Numbers Capture App showcases the image traceability framework in an easy to use every day application. Users operate Capture like any other mobile camera application. When a picture is taken, the app will automatically record the time, location, photographer, and other metadata to create a unique birth certificate for image traceability.
An additional feature of Capture App is the PostCapture function, which allows users to generate unique digital image “postcards”. These digital postcards are digital assets that users have full ownership of ensured by the blockchain. These assets can be shared, and like any postcard, the ownership is effectively transferred. We hope that Capture App’s PostCapture feature can help to bring back uniqueness and value back to photos.
