We are excited to announce that our very own Numbers Protocol IPFS Gateway is LIVE and operational! With our gateway being LIVE you can expect a more seamless and improved Web3.0 experience when retrieving assets in the Numbers Protocol Network.

Let us dive deeper to understand the significance of this!

IPFS and why it matters for Web3.0

Interplanetary File System (IPFS) is as the official documentation states “a distributed system for storing and accessing files, applications, data, and websites.” In simpler terms IPFS is the data storage system for Web3.0. In contrast to the centralized manner data is stored in the current iteration of the internet, data stored on IPFS is decentralized. This is important because it means that data does not reside in any one location and can remain accessible and censorship-proof even in the face of server shutdowns.

Another important aspect of IPFS is the content addressing. Instead of accessing data based on a location-based address (URL), IPFS data is accessed based on the content itself. This is done by generating a unique content id (CID).

For NFT, decentralized storage is especially important because the last thing you want is to purchase a NFT and be unable to access it due to a server shutdown or failure. Pinning digital asset files onto IPFS can ensure its permanence and accessibility.

As a photo network for Web3.0, IPFS storage and indexing are key features of Numbers photo network. All digital media created with our various tools (Capture APP & CaptureClub Creator Gallery) are pinned to IPFS for accessibility and index with unique CIDs. In an effort to expand our network, we have also taken it upon ourselves to index and pin existing NFTs on various marketplaces as a part of our goal to achieve full coverage for NFT Search Engine.

In our efforts to index and ensure all NFTs are available in our Numbers network, we found the Web3.0 browsing experience to be inconsistent and unstable utilizing public gateways. This is where our own Numbers Protocol Gateway comes into play!

IPFS Gateway

Gateways are important because they serve as entry points to IPFS for browsers and tools that do not yet support the decentralized storage system. For example, Chrome browsers cannot access IPFS content utilizing `ipfs://{CID}` instead will need to rely on a pseudo-url such as `https://ipfs.io/ipfs/{CID}`.

Public gateways such as the one hosted by Protocol Labs (ipfs.io/ipfs/{CID}). Those of you who have used this gateway have found the browsing experience to be slow and unstable.

To improve the Web3.0 browsing experience for our users, we have decided to launch our own Gateway. Users of our gateway can expect a more seamless and improved Web3.0 browsing experience!

About Numbers Protocol

Numbers is building a decentralized photo network for creating community, value, and trust in digital media. Its Numbers Protocol redefines digital visual media as assets and is the backbone of a suite of tools for registering and retrieving images and videos in the Numbers network.

These include:

  • Capture app: The first blockchain camera in the world that users can easily register photos and use Web 3.0 applications.
  • Seal API: Developers and enterprises can implement Numbers API to register photos and access their Web3.0 addresses and certificates.
  • Certificates: content authenticity certificates with on-chain provenance
  • CaptureClub marketplace: Native NFT marketplace which allows photo generators to sell and stake their creations.
  • NFT Search Engine: The first Web 3.0 NFT search engine that helps users verify the history of NFTs and prevent potential NFT fraud.

Numbers champion the purity of digital media and enable people to think more critically about the interactions between our images and the world around us. The goal of Numbers is to tokenize authentic photos (including images and videos) to create a decentralized photo network in Web 3.0.
