As brands and artists increasingly seek ways to empower their users and integrate physical goods with digital assets, “Phygital” experiences have become popular as a way to improve the user experience and drive sales. These strategies often involve the use of web3 technologies such as blockchain, decentralized services, and NFTs.

Legitimate is a Protocol for Physical NFTs that provide digital experiences with physical products. Numbers Protocol is an asset-driven protocol that allows for the traceability and verifiability of digital media. By combining the capabilities of Legitimate and Numbers Protocol, we can create a seamless and transparent Phygital experience that integrates the physical and digital worlds.

Despite the bearish cryptocurrency market and the slowing NFT market, traditional brands such as Nike, Tiffany, and Adidas have accelerated their entry into the NFTs by offering Phygital experiences, such as releasing physical goods related to NFTs, to attract and retain their customers.

Legitimate is a protocol that creates a 1-to-1 connection between a physical good and its corresponding NFT token with an NFC chip. This technology allows the owner of these goods to see the NFT digitally by tapping the NFC chip with a smartphone while also owning the physical item. Additionally, the security protocol within the LGT tag is designed to ensure authenticity while providing additional digital experiences only to owners of the physical products. The combination of the physical object and its digital NFT is a so-called “Physical NFT”.

Like digital NFTs, Physical NFTs also face challenges in tracking and verifying the provenance of the digital artwork associated with the tags. Buyers may be uncertain whether the physical goods such as printed t-shirts are authorized by the original creators or commissioned by holders of specific NFTs. The solution provided by Numbers Protocol complements current NFTs by providing information and the on-chain history of digital assets in an asset-base view.

Numbers Protocol provides a complete solution for the digital media industry. It generates a unique Web3.0 address, called a Numbers ID (Nid), for every piece of media in the Numbers network. Unlike NFTs, which are just tokens linked to asset files, Nid is the file context itself, creating an identifier that provides a full picture.

Legitimate’s customers can opt in to leverage Numbers Protocol to properly associate physical products with another digital asset. This connection between the Physical NFT and the original digital asset thus serves as a secure and transparent way to license physical productions (or re-productions) of original art, photographs, or other creations. For example, a gallery or museum can leverage this exact use case to create and sell merchandise of a particular artist’s work, with proper attribution of the work to the original artist and their artwork embedded directly in the product itself.

Legitimate and Numbers Protocol intend to collaborate on creating authentic digital certificates by combining physical NFTs with traceable and verifiable on-chain provenance in an asset-driven way. This will help brands and web 2.0 industries seamlessly adopt web 3.0 technology without losing the information and stories behind their digital assets.

“This partnership between Legitimate and Numbers is an absolute game changer for artists, photographers, and other creatives, many of whom have had their work printed and reproduced without proper attribution or IP licensing.”, said Calvin Chan, founder & CEO of Legitimate. “NFTs as a primitive allowed creatives to fully own their digital media creations. For the first time ever, creators can maintain full ownership and traceability of their work beyond just the digital media itself. Physical prints, T-Shirts, and other merchandise can now be fully and properly attributed to each individual creator whose work is displayed on the medium.”
