※ While many EOS holders are familiar with the contents of this article, the author aims to provide a series of information on how to create EOS account and experience the dAPP for those new to the ecosystem.
On June 2nd, 2018, after raising USD 4.5 billion in less than a year, EOS launched its mainnet with great anticipation from the blockchain community. 7 months after, EOS has established its position as the most widely used blockchain software in the world, with more than 260 projects participating and Numbers Inc., an EOS dApp-based platform being one of them.
EOS is a mighty ocean where many projects inhabit, providing an ideal ecosystem for the development of various dApps. Try navigating the EOS and experience the potential and possibility for yourself.
Two Things to Note Before Signing Up for EOS
- A small amount of payment should be made to create an EOS account (approx. KRW 1,200 / As of Jan. 2019)
- A Key Pair is required to create an EOS account.
First, a small amount of payment should be made to create an EOS account. Some might be curious as to why, as it doesn’t cost anything to create an Ethereum account. The answer lies in transaction fee: while Ethereum charges a small computation fee for all actions taken on the blockchain. However, EOS does not charge such, but instead requires you to purchase a small amount of storage for your account information.
The payment includes the computing resources for your account, so it sure is worth your payment.
Next, you will need a public key and a private key to create the EOS account.
When signing up for a website, you will need to type in an ID and a password. In the EOS ecosystem, a public key is equivalent to the ID, while a private is equivalent to the password.
Think of it as purchasing a set of lock (public key) and key (private key) to ensure safe protection of your treasure chest of EOS account.
The reason why the author compared the private key to the password is because it should never be disclosed to someone else. A private key is connected to a public key, and the duplicate of a private key does not exist anywhere in the world. Once your private key is leaked, anyone can have access to your account and put your assets at risks, so manage your key with extreme caution!
EOSHUB, a Guide to Signing Up for EOS
Originally, a help from an existing user is required to sign up for EOS, but to avoid the hassle the author recommends using simple account creation service.
This time, the author will use eoshub, a service provided by EOSYS, the largest EOS Block Producer in Korea to sign up. First, click the URL below.

- Account Name: Enter your desired password consisting of exactly 12 letters, using lowercase alphabet and numbers 1–5.
- Generated Key Pair: The key pair, explained above, is automatically generated here.
Take note of the keys somewhere safe. And take extreme caution to prevent your private key from being leaked!
- Payment Information: The amount of resources (CPU, RAM, NET) which will be added to your account once the payment is complete is displayed here.
Click the checkbox next to ‘I hereby agree with the EOS Constitution’ and click ‘Create Account’ button. A payment screen will appear. Select the bank of your choice and transfer the corresponding amount to complete the sign-up process.
It should be noted that the generation of the EOS KEY (public and private keys) does not mean that your EOS account was created. Please be advised that all three components of public key, private key and your account name are required to complete the sign-up process.
Now, let’s check if the account was successfully created.
This can be done at eosflare.io, a website for EOS transaction inquiry. Enter the account name you used to sign up to check if your account was successfully generated.
Here, you can check all information including your account name, public key, and what transactions were taken. This represents the first step you, an EOS beginner, have taken as a transparent and fair observer of the actions taken in the EOS ecosystem.
Now that your EOS account is successfully created, you are ready to navigate the mighty seas of EOS. You can send and receive EOS, and enjoy playing games.
