Numeracy’s column stats are a great way to explore data without having to spend a bunch of time writing queries. For example, they can tell you that a column is sometimes missing data, but before today you still couldn’t tell where that missing data is.

Now whenever you see a stat in Numeracy you can click it to filter the results down to just the matching rows. You’ll have plenty of chances to try it out because Numeracy generates stats for every column from every query.

Here’s what it looks like when you have a column with repeating values — in this case 169 different ways a person could say they’re from San Francisco.

Filled/blank/invalid meters are also interactive which is a great way to spot data quality issues deep in your data.

We’ve also improved histograms to make them easier to use.

Interactive stats are available on all columns. Special columns like email will show you the most common domains while JSON columns will show you the most common keys present in all rows. Numeric columns with “id” in the column name will now show value distributions as well, making it easy to spot the most common ids from any query.

Once you hit the long tail of infrequent results in columns with repeating values it’s more useful to see all the values inline. There’s a new option at the bottom of long lists for just that.

These interactive stats make finding gaps in data or just gut checking assumptions fluid and simple. With column stats you can write broad queries and explore results interactively rather than endlessly iterating on the query itself.

Since Numeracy’s results table is blazing fast you can write queries that return tens or hundreds of thousands of rows without worrying about slowing down your browser. These larger result sets will give you more accurate stats.

You can try out these interactive stats with an example query on Numeracy.
