A year in review

Erasure

Erasure and NMR are critical components to Numerai’s vision of a decentralized capital allocation engine. But it also has the greater potential to bring Web3 to every application on the internet.

2019 is the year of Erasure’s awakening. We designed and implemented the protocol itself, built and migrated our own applications on top of the protocol, and supported the community with grants and a hackathon to build out tools and libraries.

2020 will be Erasure’s platform moment, where success is measured by how broadly the protocol is adopted and how much value it can create for its adopters.

Kazutsugi dataset

The Kazutsugi dataset is the biggest data release we have done to date. The dataset was designed to give users more flexibility in their modelling and to give Numerai predictions that could be better monetized.

The actual changes behind the obfuscation are hard to see, but it represents months of research and is a big step towards our ongoing goals of providing the best available data to users and aligning incentives between the tournament and the hedge fund.

Learn more about the dataset’s impact on the hedge fund in Richard’s latest post.

Staking 2.0

Staking 2.0 is the biggest tournament design change we have done to date. The change was designed to greatly improve the core UX of staking by simplifying the rules, providing more feedback, and streamlining the weekly workflow of users.

Since the release, we have more than 2x staked models and have seen dramatic improvements in submission/staking consistency, which is critical for meta model performance and research.

User survey

In this first ever all-user survey, we learned a lot about the backgrounds, motivations, and preferences of the community. In particular, it became clear that we need to manage tournament changes better and do more to help onboard users to the dataset and data science problem.

Thank you for the great feedback and suggestions, we look forward to hearing more from you again in the next survey. We hope you will like our upcoming changes and improvements in 2020!

Season 5

2020 marks the 5th year of Numerai and what we have achieved together is amazing. Richard’s recent tweet captured this perfectly:

A big thank you to everyone in the community who has helped make this a reality.

To upending the hedge fund industry!
