LinkedIn: An Essential Tool for Today’s Freelancer?
I’ve been on LinkedIn for quite a while, since 2008. I’m proud of my professional journey, as shown on my LinkedIn profile. I occupied only five different jobs since 1994. Of course, my LinkedIn usage went through many ups and downs. Since I started to think of going as a freelancer, my use of LinkedIn has dramatically increased, with a few browsing sessions per day. My new curiosity about the freelancing world triggers my need to stay in touch with my network, opportunities and news in my field of interest, just in case. Now, I’m paying attention and have a few observations to share.
Original content is a rare thing on my LinkedIn timeline. Most of the content comes from people sharing some form of disguised marketing ploys or cheap professional bits of advice. I’m unsure if this reflects LinkedIn’s general state. I wrote several articles in the last few years and found the experience pleasing. It’s a great way to be active, gather feedback, or engage in short conversations with my network. As a freelancer, I could continue to use LinkedIn as a publishing platform for more in-depth articles. I would probably write articles on subjects that matter most. These articles would showcase credibility to potential clients or just to be noticed by my network via likes, shares or comments. It sounds like Facebook.
