The Impact of Numida’s Women’s Day Campaign

Numida ran our Women’s Day Campaign from February 8th to March 8th encouraging existing Numida business clients to refer as many women-owned businesses as possible to join Numida.

Here are the results of our conscious effort to increase the number of women owned businesses that Numida serves:

  • Over 650 Numida clients (women and men) took part, enabling us to provide credit to over 900 women-owned businesses throughout the duration of the promotion.
  • Our overall female loan portfolio grew from 43% to 44% which is a step in the right direction for financial inclusion for all and breaking the bias against women owned businesses in the lending sector in Uganda.

A one percentage point of a growing portfolio of customers drives us closer to bridging the gender gap in our business. Still, we recognize there is a long way to go at Numida and in the broader lending sector to achieve gender balance and provide sufficient opportunities for the advancement of women entrepreneurs.

We are proud that our women’s day campaign had a large number of male client participants who actively referred women in business to join us. This collective effort from both our male and female clients went a long way in making this campaign a success. We intend to continue challenging ourselves to better serve women, and find allies, advocates and champions among our customers and business partners to make this possible.

Numida will continue to make conscious choices and find innovative avenues to better serve micro and small businesses that are not served by traditional lending institutions.
