NuNet Secures Funding For GPU Support Through Cardano’s Catalyst Fund 8 Round
Greetings Singularitarians,
Cardano’s Catalyst Fund 8 voting has concluded, and we are delighted to report that NuNet’s proposal was successfully approved with 364 million worth of ADA votes, more than any other proposal in the funding round! This means that NuNet has secured $83,000 in funding for our GPU use case. We would like to take this opportunity to explain the details of the proposal, and what this will mean for the future of NuNet and our community.
The Proposal
NuNet’s proposal for this funding round is titled NuNet: Decentralized GPU ML Cloud. It introduces our intention to enable the NuNet platform to utilize graphics processing units (GPUs) provided by community owned devices. GPUs are vital in the complex computations required for machine learning algorithms, graphics rendering, and many other processes that will make a plethora of use cases possible for the NuNet platform. This could enable AI and metaverse projects to build on Cardano without being dependent on centralized cloud computing.
The Future
We want to make it clear that NuNet will not be submitting another proposal for Cardano’s Fund 9 round. After successfully securing funding for this proposal and the previous Catalyst Fund 7, we will now commit to fulfilling our responsibilities by completing the plans laid out in these proposals.
The two proposals work well together, as Fund 7’s stake pool operator support represents a long-term use case that will require 100% uptime from compute providers, while Fund 8’s GPU support may provide shorter term compute jobs that could complete after a certain period and not require constant computation. This may accommodate different types of individuals who provide compute power, those that want to keep their devices running on a constant basis, and those who do not.
This event marks the beginning of an important period for NuNet, in which we will accelerate development of the use cases we have proposed, towards a functional decentralized cloud computing platform. Stay tuned for development announcements as we implement our Agile process in this exciting era.
