Nicole Thomas was introduced to healthcare through attending a medical magnet high school and worked as a nurse’s tech while completing her Bachelor’s degree. Her career has spanned home care, inpatient staff nurse, outpatient coordinator, utilization/precertification review, case management, and leadership roles. She has built several community health programs, including the Baton Rouge Free Clinic. Dr. Thomas was a key leader in the managed care transition of Louisiana’s Medicaid program that ensured quality access to healthcare and led to a $3.2 million dollar annual cost savings. She went on to receive her Master’s in Nursing Education and Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She is currently an Instructor of Clinical Nursing at Louisiana State University Health Science Center and is the recipient of the Super Hero award, a prestigious award in which over 1,500 were nominated but only 125 were selected.
