Re-cap: Next 36 Summer Kick-Off Event
On May 9th, the Nuscreen team attended The Next 36 Summer Kick-Off at the TIFF Bell Lightbox downtown Toronto. Next 36 is a company that develops the growth of Canada’s most noteworthy and prospective young entrepreneurs. Through mentorship, capital, and founder development, Next 36 and The Next Founders aim to fast-track startups. Nuscreen is very proud to be a Creative Partner with the organization.
At the Summer Kick-Off, startups were given 4 minutes to pitch their business idea in order to be recognized by a theatre full of business leaders.
In addition to the 4 minute pitches, Affan Imran, co-founder of Nuscreen, met with some of the 36 with a challenge. Using a 10 second Snapchat video, these young professionals needed to produce a one-sentence mission statement highlighting their businesses marketing, customer success, development, and sales!
There was a lot to be learned considering the amount of great speakers in attendance. Reza Satchu was the final speaker of the day. He defines being an entrepreneur as “a relentless pursuit of opportunity without restriction of current resources”. He also added, “as an entrepreneur you never have enough resources, money or people that believe in you. You’re playing for the LONG-TERM”. These are words to live by for any young business start up.
We spoke to a handful of startups, one of them being a company called Curexe. Jonathan Holland (CEO) pitched his business, which provides international payment and currency exchange services to businesses in Canada. His tag line was “Bringing transparency and fairness to the Canadian currency exchange market”. We also spoke with Nishant Samantray, founder and CEO of Tandem. Tandem helps developers snip code from their own workspace, share it with their team and also merge changes made by co-workers directly into their own personal files. Nuscreen is excited to be able to demo Tandem in the office soon.
As a small business, and home to a team of young professionals, Nuscreen was very happy to have been able to attend the Summer Kickoff. Supporting emerging industry members is the best way to create a successful, innovative community across Canada.
