Shephard’s Pie by The Wholesome Dish

Hello everyone!

It’s no secret that here in the U.S., eating beef is just as American as the national anthem. In fact, according to Statista, people in the U.S. consume roughly 30 billion pounds of beef each year. The cultivation of cattle for their meat has caused a lot of tension between cattle farmers and animal activists, and while this could be greatly reformed, the benefits of eating beef for pregnant women are undeniable.

For example, beef is not only a great source of protein, but chocked full of iron, both of which are necessary for proper fetal development and to treat conditions such as maternal anemia. Beef is as tasty as it is versatile, and can be cooked in 7 ways. These cooking forms are divided between two heat types: dry and moist.

According to Hagan Cattle Company, “Dry-heat cooking uses hot air to conduct the heat around the beef. Think roasting, broiling, grilling, or sautéing. Moist-heat cooking is any method that involves cooking with moisture, like braising or stewing.” When combined with vegetables, the mineral that are provided from beef are only further compounded, ultimately creating a more nutritious meal for pregnant mothers and their children.

To help you and your families cook for yourselves, we have provided a for shepherd’s pie below for your use. Feel free to take a photo of your pies and tag us to spread the word about NutriNatal and our educational content!
