Hello everyone,

In today’s post, we wanted to shed light around one of the most commonly consumed meats in the U.S., chicken. While chicken has been eaten by humans for thousands of years, it has only recently become a staple in the American diet. Believe it or not, this change was as a recent as the last 60 years.

According to the USDA, Americans ate roughly 20lbs of chicken prior to 1965. By 1980, this amount had 50lbs and has seen steady increases as corporations such as McDonalds made chicken consumption cheaper and last longer via freezing techniques. Obviously we are not suggesting McDonald’s chicken nuggets as a healthy option for pregnant women, but rather, we wanted to discuss the benefits of eating chicken overall. For starters, chicken is full of protein and healthy fats. It can also be paired with a multitude of sauces and sides, giving it plenty of diverse flavors.

In the U.S. chicken is most commonly paired with rice or pasta, which brings us to our recipe: Chicken Alfredo. Chicken Alfredo was first created in 1908 by a man named Alfredo di Lelio for his pregnant wife, Ines, eat after she lost her appetite following the birth of their first son. Over 100 years later, Chicken Alfredo has become a favorite among all. Bellyfull has helped us out with a great recipe for beginners to try.
