The holiday season definitely gets us out of our normal routine. The travel, party food, alcohol, etc. can all leave our belly feeling not. quite. right. ⛄️

So I’ve put together a list of 4 common gut issues w/ a quick solution to each one. We don’t want our digestive tract standing in the way of our holiday fun. 🎉

Gut Issue #1: Not “Going” Enough
Dehydration and less physical activity often lead to not being able to “go”.

THE FIX: Water + Walk.
Drink hot lemon water (or any hot 🔥 beverage like tea or coffee) first thing in the morning & then do a brisk walk outside or on a treadmill to get things moving.
BONUS: Turmeric may also help so try a golden milk latte. I love these easy packets.

Gut Issue #2: “Going” Too Often
“Going” too often can be a sign you’re not eating enough soluble fiber.

THE FIX: Apples.
Apples 🍎 are great for when you’re “going” too often because they’re high in pectin — a soluble fiber that helps firm up stool in the digestive tract. Snack on an apple & almonds or add apple slices to tahini toast for breakfast.

Gut Issue #3: Bloating
Bloating can be a sign that you’re not doing a good job digesting what you’re eating.

THE FIX: Chew!
Chewing is the first part of digestion, do a thorough job chewing each mouthful (aim for 15 chews per bite) & you will be less bloated.
BONUS: Peppermint tea may also help w/ bloating by relaxing & soothing the digestive tract.

Gut Issue #4: Feeling “Hangry”
Ok, this isn’t necessarily a gut issue, but holidays can mean irregular meal times & Scroogey irritability.

THE FIX: Protein snacks.
Keep portable protein in your bag for when hunger strikes. I like roasted chickpeas or grass fed jerky. They’re quick real-food ways to bridge one meal to the next.
