NUTS Finance will work with CQG to launch an innovation lab focused on developing decentralized cryptocurrency infrastructure, trading solutions for institutional investors and organizations.

We’re excited to announce that NUTS Finance will be partnering with CQG, a market leader in advanced financial software and technology, catering for market makers, traders, brokers, managed funds and exchanges, to launch Optio Research, a Web3 based innovation lab focused on developing cryptocurrency products specifically for institutional investors. This initiative will bridge the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and fast-moving decentralized finance (DeFi) and will leverage the deep experience and knowledge of both firms and their teams.

The cryptocurrency industry is still in its infancy, both when it comes to products and adoption, but more importantly — regulations. In anticipation of this changing landscape, the NUTS team has begun to appreciate and have a real need for a partner who possesses exceptionally deep experience and acumen when it comes to operating in a heavily regulated industry, such as traditional finance. Conducive to this is the fact that while DeFi has demonstrated real usage and proof of concept, the breadth of features and product sophistication is still dramatically behind its TradFi counterpart. It is clear to us that the next interaction of DeFi products and services will incorporate processes, workflows and capabilities that are far more accustomed to institutional investors, both corporate and individual.

Continuing from that, in a quite expected and popular fashion, CQG, having provided services to top market makers and other enterprises in TradFi, were faced with the fact that existing clients were curious about their crypto strategy and plans. As a result, the search began for an appropriate and complimentary partner within the Web3 space to collaborate with on their blockchain strategy, and more specifically, establish itself as a key provider of crypto derivatives and trading solutions.

After several months of ideation and identifying potential opportunities, both teams became confident in finally establishing Optio, with Terry, our co-founder stating: “Over the last few years, we have seen the crypto marketplace develop rapidly. However, it is evident that the workflow and infrastructure for institutional investors is still at a nascent stage. Through Optio, our partnership with CQG and collective experience in derivatives trading technology and Web3 development give us the opportunity to be market leaders in developing a range of solutions that will not only improve the current user experience, but also act as a catalyst to accelerate adoption into this emerging asset class by traditional financial institutions.”

Leading the newly established Optio will be existing CQG executives Kevin Darby and Benjamin Soong, along with the co-founders of NUTS Finance, Terry Lam and Daniel Tang. CQG’s CEO, Ryan Moroney, will serve as a strategic advisor and member of Optio’s board of directors.

This will no doubt enable us at NUTS Finance to continue our mission of developing meaningful financial applications and solutions within the Web3 space, and we’ll be announcing the first initiatives of Optio Research in the coming weeks — so stay tuned.
