The Bible is a book of books, it is frequently printed as one book now, but for more than a thousand years most people have encountered the Bible as a library of multiple volumes or multiple scrolls. The Bible is a full collection of books that the Jewish and Christian communities around the world have historically accepted being uniquely authoritative. The Bible is a compilation of 66 books, from which the first 39 books are classified as the Old Testament, followed by the 27 books classified as the New Testament.

So, who got to pick what actually went into the Bible?

A very common belief held by a lot of people that ‘the Bible was formed by a group of fancy religious people, or by a group of powerful authoritative figures’ is a huge misconception. It just doesn’t make any sense that people would align their lives with such a document or build a society to fit around it. Further, it doesn’t line up with the actual account of history. Historically, the Bible was not something that was voted upon and appeared out of thin air. Christianity discovered the contents of the Bible over time.
