AI Food Scanner Appears in a Research Paper! 📋
[A Study on the Relationship between the Eating Habits of Elementary School Students and the School Meal Intake Measured by an Artificial Intelligence Food Scanner]
--
Hi, this is Nuvilab.
A paper that researched the eating habits of elementary school students using Nuvilab’s AI food scanner was published by the Korean Dietetic Association. 🎉
Preventing and managing childhood obesity is crucial, as the obesity progression rate in adulthood is around 70% for those who were obese between the ages of 10 and 13. 🤓 Since childhood obesity is closely related to dietary and lifestyle habits, it is essential to manage eating habits from an early age.
Despite the importance of preventing childhood obesity and school meals, there have been limited studies in Korea that investigated the relationship between eating habits and school meals in elementary school students.
Nuvilab’s AI food scanner can calculate intake rates with high accuracy based on accumulated data of about 4.5 million meals (as of March), making it possible to extract objective data in dietary researches! 🍚
We collected data from 2nd and 3rd graders who agreed to participate in the study using Nuvilab’s AI food scanner for about a month in 2021. Through statistical analysis, we found the following results:
The average school meal intake rate was slightly lower than the average intake rate of 70.4%, which was reported in a previous study (Park et al. 2010).
To establish healthy eating habits among school-aged children, dietary education is needed to reduce screen time and focus on meals during meal times.
This shows that there is a positive correlation between healthy eating habits and school meal intake rates. (…) Eating a healthy diet and eating school meals without being picky are positively correlated.
An interview with Professor Hyun Jung Lim, from the Graduate School of East-West Medical Science at Kyung Hee University, who conducted this study, was organised by the only group meal service newspaper in Korea, Korea Food Service News! You can find the interview with Professor Lim right here. 🧑⚕️
Today we had the chance to look into a research paper on elementary school students’ eating habits using our AI Food Scanner. This has great significance as it suggests that our AI Food Scanners can be used not only for reducing food waste or operating school cafeterias but also for research, especially in the field of eating habits. 😋
Nuvilab’s technology and AI Food Scanner, which can be applied in various fields, will expand beyond school cafeterias to more areas. Let’s all cheer for Nuvilab’s expansion!
